  • Gwinnett County joins international group to make communities more welcoming                                                                                            Gwinnett County has joined the Welcoming Network, an international association of more than 300 local governments and nonprofits working to build more inclusive communities. The group is run by Welcoming America, a nonprofit that promotes inclusion toward immigrants and others. It helps members increase equity in areas such as language access, health care and economic development. Gwinnett County is the second-largest county in Georgia and the most diverse. - The Atlanta Journal Constitution

 

  • NFL extends support for Atlanta-based social justice organizations  
    The NFL announced the renewals of 21 national grant partners including Atlanta-based social justice organizations as part of the Inspire Change social justice initiative. The new 21 grant partners have totaled $6.5 million in donations, according to officials. Operation HOPE will continue to remove traditional hurdles to Black entrepreneurship by providing them with the critical tools, resources and education needed to start — and scale— their ventures. - CBS 46

Atlanta Jobs with Justice - Atlanta Jobs with Justice is a coalition of labor unions, community groups, faith based organizations, student organizations, and individuals that leads and supports campaigns for economic and social justice in Atlanta workplaces and communities.

ATL is Ready - ATLisReady is a cooperatively owned social enterprise of grassroots organizations, student activists, community organizers, millennial leaders and good ol' folk. Together the organizations work in principle to strengthen and amplify indigenous Black and marginalized voices in Atlanta. It uses equitable policy development, community empowerment to elevate local organizing efforts advancing racial and economic justice initiatives in the city.

ATL Raise Up - ATL Raise Up represents fast food workers in Atlanta joining the global movement for $15/hour and the right to unionize without retaliation. It believes that all workers deserve a living wage and the right to form a union without retaliation.

Common Cause Georgia - Common Cause Georgia is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization that works to strengthen public participation in our democracy and ensure that public officials and public institutions are accountable and responsive to citizens. Through a powerful combination of coalition building, lobbying and litigation, grassroots organizing, policy development, research and public education, they spotlight local, state and national issues that affect every Georgian.

Georgia Muslim Voter Project - Georgia Muslim Voter Project is a group of American Muslims striving to rally the American Muslim community to show up big time in the upcoming election. They believe in the value and power of America’s communities finding and using their voices. The focus is to empower American Muslims to amplify their voices through their votes. They envision an active, engaged American Muslim voting bloc, capable of upholding the equitable rights of American Muslims.

Housing Justice League - HJL is a grassroots, member-led organization that seeks to build power in Metro Atlanta neighborhoods highly impacted by the housing crisis. By mobilizing communities around foreclosure, eviction, tenant rights, and public land rights — with an emphasis on leadership development and fostering a culture of resistance through non-violent direct action — they strive to transform our city’s approach to housing. HJL believes that housing is a human right regardless of race, national or ethnic origin, economic background, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identification or immigration status.

LaGender, Inc. - LaGender works to serve the unique needs of the transgender community in Metro Atlanta for HIV prevention, intervention, education, and other related needs. They envision a sisterhood and a world free from HIV/AIDS, homelessness, mass incarceration, police profiling, mental health duress, and racial and gender discrimination. Through a holistic loving approach, LaGender transforms the lives of trans women of color in a dynamic family setting.

Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative - The Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative is a Black, trans-led, broad based collaborative working for a new Atlanta where every person has the opportunity to grow and thrive without facing unfair barriers, especially from the criminal justice system.

SPARK Reproductive Justice Now - SPARK is a reproductive justice organization based in Atlanta, GA, advocating for policies that protect and expand access to the full range of family planning options, abortion, and sexual health education for women and youth of color in the state of Georgia. SPARK ensures the voices of women of color, young parents, and LGBTQ+ youth of color living in the south are included in the reproductive rights and justice movements.

Street Groomers - Street Groomers are a group of Atlanta-are young Black men who organize themselves into street patrol units, unite the 'street tribes', begin taking back the streets from thugs of all types and cleaning up their communities. The Street Groomers are now in demand in many Atlanta area neighborhoods, and in communities in other cities and states, as positive results are immediately noticed in communities they patrol. In addition to expanding the communities they patrol, their next step is to launch enterprises, programs and projects that benefit and positively transform the youth and communities they patrol.

With the dooming atmosphere of book banning and the attack on racially focused history, this event is a necessity for the well being of the community.

A comfortable and friendly event in which professional women come to meet one another in order to connect and grow their businesses. An event where woman can utilize each other to create leads and possible mentors for young entrepreneurs.

Project Homeless Connect

Project Homeless Connect is an annual event that brings resources and services together under one roof to best serve those experiencing homelessness. Over 700 guests and 400 volunteers attend Milwaukee Project Homeless Connect for this one day event. Milwaukee has hosted this event since 2009, and Waukesha had its first event in 2019.

Changeist is an out of school program that brings together 11-26 year olds to learn a common civic language, engage in dialogue, and build community to investigate local and global social justice issues. On Saturdays between January 6, 2024 and July, 6 2024 we focus on developing our sociopolitical knowledge and personal agency.

Take Action. Protect Pollinators

Join TCA and TRAC Saturday, October 28, to save pollinators, birds, mammals and amphibians at Trinity River Audubon Center. We’ll help restore prairie habitats on the Audubon Center campus to help wildlife thrive in the urban environment.

SECOND SATURDAY SHORELINE SPRUCE UP

Join For the Love of the Lake every second Saturday for our monthly Shoreline Spruce Up at White Rock Lake Park. Volunteers collect litter though out White Rock Lake Park, up White Rock Creek, and along the shoreline.

“Opioid Overdose Awareness and Prevention” WORKSHOP

This workshop aims to raise awareness about the dangers of opioid overdose and provide valuable information on prevention strategies. Through interactive sessions and expert-led discussions, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the opioid crisis and learn practical ways to help prevent overdoses in their communities.
