Excessive use of the internet is reshaping teenage brains, according to a new study by researchers at University College London.
“We know that when we overuse things like smartphones and social media, it gets into our reward system in the brain,” explained Allison Kranich, a professional counselor at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. “This is really problematic for teens, especially pre-teens – anyone aged 9 to 12.”
Kranich joined the WGN Evening News to discuss the study’s findings, how to assess a problem and strategies for treatment. Watch the full segment in this video.
