New Ellis County Veterans Treatment Court utilizes Employment Services

Ellis County just started its Veterans Treatment Court (VTC) this May. The program is designed to provide Justice Involved Veterans, those incarcerated in the criminal justice system, the resources and assistance for a successful return to the community. That includes job readiness.

Providing job readiness services for the Ellis County VTC is TVC Veteran Employment Services Rural Veteran Career Advisor (RVCA) and Air Force Veteran Danny Wyatt. Veteran Employment Services has been involved with Ellis County VTC since the development stages. Now that it is launched, Wyatt is actively involved with the court and its participants. He attends the court on the first and third Monday of each month. Justice Involved Veterans are referred to Wyatt for job readiness training. That consists of resume writing practice, creating a 30 second elevator speech and an understanding of the Applicant Tracking System. Further, participants are provided resources and information including employability reports, fidelity bonding and a skills assessment.

“To help ensure successful completion of the program, The Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), plays a role for Justice Involved Veterans,” said Ron Abrams, TVC Employment Services North Texas District Outreach Coordinator and Army veteran. “It’s great collaboration and effort on behalf of the Ellis County Veteran Treatment Court’s Managing Director, Mr. Brent L. Dorrough; Presiding Judge for Veterans Treatment Court, Judge William D. Wallace; and RVCA Danny Wyatt of the Waxahachie AJC (American Jobs Center).”
